What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy healing technique that is used for stress reduction and relaxation. It can also relieve pain and
promote recovery. It is gentle, non-invasive yet powerful as a Reiki practitioner places hands lightly on different parts of the body to assess and unblock energy which helps to relieve side effects, and help your body to heal itself. It is found helpful in supporting immune system, resolving nervous conditions and emotional issues.
It is an ancient technique that was known to past civilizations but then forgotten, only to be re-discovered by a Japanese missionary in the 1800s. It has been credited with improving a sense of energy and well-being. It can be used as the sole therapy, or in conjunction with medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki is based on the concept that vital energies flow through pathways in our physical body. In Ayurvedic they are referred to as chakras and Nadis. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, they are called meridians. This energy, known as prana or qi, nourishes the organs and cells of the body and helps to support their vital functions. These energetic pathways create a field around our physical body.
Our vital energy is responsive to thoughts and feelings and is reflecting upon the changes in our physical and emotional body. Negative thoughts and feelings (caused by stress, anxiety, pain, fear, worry, etc.) “attach” themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force. When the energy flow is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of our organs or tissues, which causes pain and disease.
Reiki heals by flowing through the auric field and the energetic channels, changing their vibrations and allowing the body to be freed from the low vibrations, purifying it, and bringing a sense of peace and lightness. Reiki raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way.
What Does a Reiki Session Look Like?
You will be asked to lie down on a massage table. You will remain fully clothed except for the shoes. It is best to choose loose-fitting clothes to wear on the day of the appointment. Wearing natural fabrics is best (cotton, wool, or linen). Reiki is an energy-based therapy with light touch that does not involve massaging or manipulating bones or tissues.
